Jon Downs – a Suffolk based photographer
Hello, thanks for stopping by.
I’m Jon, and I’ve been pointing cameras at things since 2010. After years of being landlocked in Buckinghamshire, I packed up and moved to sunny Felixstowe on the gorgeous Suffolk coast for a more chilled pace of life—and it’s had a massive impact on my pictures.
For me, photography is all about mood and storytelling. I’m drawn to images that are a bit raw and mysterious, whether it’s an emotive portrait or one of my atmospheric shots of the coast. It’s never about perfection or fancy gear; it’s about the feeling you get from the photo.
I’ve got a real soft spot for the overlooked details—the way light and shadow play, the textures in things, and all those fleeting moments that some people might miss. My style is usually muted and understated, and I love a good black and white photo. It’s about keeping it real, not making it over polished.
My photos have ended up in galleries and in various corners of the world, which is pretty cool. But really, it’s just about making art I enjoy and having fun with it.
Oh, and if you’re a photographer looking to improve your craft, I offer tuition and as well photo walks along the Suffolk coast.
